We are incredibly excited to present Johanne Edvarda B. Slaatta as the next curator for GRIM KINO!

GRIM KINO presents Liquid Eyes, an evening curated by Johanne Edvarda B. Slaatta, bringing together two mid-length films separated by more than fifty years. Though radically different in form and time, the works echo one another through their attention to environmental collapse, human uncertainty and the fragile structures we build around hope, solidarity and survival.

The program opens with Floating Point (2025) by Iva Magdalena Trømborg. The film unfolds through the perspective of a drifting atom moving weightlessly through public and private spaces. Observing humans, birds, water and fragments of everyday life, the atom shifts between detachment and curiosity, creating a fragmented meditation on ecological anxiety, perception and unstable environments.

The second screening is S.O.S OCEAN (1971) by Marius Heyerdahl and Jan Horne, a documentary following artist and environmental activist Marius Heyerdahl as he travels through industrial areas in Europe protesting the dumping of chemicals into the sea. Accompanying him is a large auk sculpture built from salvaged materials, fitted with loudspeakers emitting cries, warnings and recorded messages. Moving between documentary, performance and political action, the film captures an atmosphere of environmental anxiety at the beginning of the 1970s that feels strikingly current today.

Seen together, the films create strange reflections across time. Questions emerging in one work reappear in the other: what becomes of solidarity when humans no longer dare to hope? Can technological systems act through trust rather than extraction and control? Through drifting perspectives, unstable landscapes and fragmented forms of observation, both films explore how bodies, environments and systems dissolve into one another.

Building on the themes of fluidity, oceanic matter and drifting atmospheres, the artistic culinary lab at GRAC extends the program into the space itself through refreshments and snacks from the sea.
