CIR / Curator in residence (fall)

Each year, GRAC invites one curator through an open call to develop a new group exhibition in Kristiansand. The selected curator works over a 1–3 month period, based between Odderøya Lighthouse and GRAC’s art space on Grim, where the curatorial concept is developed and realised.

The open call is announced before summer, with selection and contracting taking place during the summer months, and production starting in September.

Based on the curator’s project description, GRAC facilitates studio visits, meetings with local artists, and access to relevant networks across art, craft, technology, and nature-based practices in the region. The curator is also encouraged to conduct independent research and build connections between their concept and the local context.

The resulting exhibition is a time-based, cross-disciplinary group show presented at GRACs art space or in the Sculpture garden. It may include newly produced works, existing works, and site-specific installations, often accompanied by performance, artist talks and public events.

The curator develops the exhibition in collaboration with GRAC, sharing responsibility for the production budget. GRAC’s production team and technical resources are available throughout the process, supporting the realisation of the curatorial vision.
